Meet the team

Mark Bigger - Instructor
Hi, I’m Mark Bigger—founder and lead instructor at North Hykeham Tae Kwon Do. I started training in martial arts back in 2001 and opened NHTKD in 2011 with a simple goal: to make martial arts accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Tae Kwon Do has had a huge impact on my life, and I’m passionate about sharing its physical, mental, and emotional benefits. Whether you’re a complete beginner, a returning student, or looking for a new way to stay active, you’ll find a welcoming, supportive space here.
Alongside martial arts, I’m also a personal trainer with a holistic approach to health—focusing not just on fitness, but on long-term wellbeing through movement, mindset, and nutrition.
At NHTKD, it’s not just about kicks and punches—it’s about confidence, community, and lifelong health. Come and give it a try!

Graeme Streets - Instructor
My journey started many moons ago, I only went along to support my 6 year old son, and now I’ve reached the dizzy heights of 5th Degree Black belt, years of practice to achieve the grade, ups and downs, highs and lows. I’m a qualified instructor and referee, all of which I never dreamt of during my first few lessons when I was unfit and massively overweight.
I’ve had a few notable moments, taking 3 beginners from white belt to 1st degree black belts being my proudest, also being main referee at the last 4 world championships especially while a fellow student won gold in the ladies sparring, awarding her that title was special.
Teaching and training allows me time away from everyday stresses and previously quality time with my boys, all now black belts (although I do wish they’d stop picking on me during sparring). I firmly believe my body will give up before my determination does.

Michelle Curgenven - Welfare Officer
Michelle’s story coming soon

Gill Walker - Welfare Officer
I started training in 2025 so I am very new to Tae Kwon Do.
I am proud to be a part of the club team, alongside Michelle, to support your welfare.
I believe it is really important to listen to how children, young people, parents, carers and adults are feeling.
Welfare to me is providing time and space to hear about happy, exciting times and equally for those times of worry or feeling uncomfortable/ unsafe.
My working background is in adult and children’s mental health nursing. I have a Masters degree in Child Protection.
Now I have more time on my hands, I love music and I’m just learning to play three-finger bluegrass banjo!

Colin Claridge Jones - The Technician
I started Tae Kwon Do February 1991 training with Don Atkins who is now a Grand Master. And took my black belt in October 1994.
I then moved around due to work and trained in different schools around the country. I did my instructors course sometime after 1995 but can’t remember when now. I had to stop training because I broke my back in a flying accident in 2021 but I am now back helping Mark out with his students but I can’t train like I used to but I can still pass on my knowledge.

Coming Soon! Our Youth Leaders
Working with Active Lincolnshire, a number of our older children are taking part in the Youth Coaches Peer Support Programme. This programme provides nationally recognised physical activity opportunities and helps to support the clubs younger students.
