Club Mission Statement
At North Hykeham Tae Kwon Do, our mission is to create a welcoming and inclusive community where people of all ages and abilities can thrive. We believe in the power of friendship, support, and shared growth through martial arts.
Here, every student is encouraged to embrace challenges — including failure — as an essential part of the journey. With compassion and determination, we help one another face our limitations, grow in confidence, and become the best version of ourselves

FAQ's
What is the first lesson like?
Your first lesson is relaxed, welcoming and focused on helping you feel comfortable. We’ll introduce you to the space, explain how the class works, and guide you through simple movements at your own pace.
For younger students, we often pair them with a training buddy or one of our Youth Coaches, so they feel supported from the start. There’s no pressure to be perfect — just to give it a go.
Do I need special equipment?
No special equipment is needed for your first few sessions. Comfortable clothing and a drink of water are absolutely fine.
If you decide Tae Kwon Do is for you, we’ll talk you through uniforms and protective equipment in plenty of time, with no rush or pressure.
How much do lessons costs?
£45 per month – up to 2 lessons per week
£40 annual licence (insurance & registration)
£30 per grading (when ready)
£40 training suit (dobok)
~£120 full protective equipment (built up over time)
There’s no pressure to buy everything at once — we’ll always explain what’s needed and when.
Is sparring full contact?
No. Sparring is controlled, non-full-contact, and always age- and ability-appropriate.
The focus is on learning control, confidence, awareness and respect — not hurting each other. Safety is always the priority, and students only take part when they’re ready.
Do I need to be fit to start with?
Not at all. You don’t need any level of fitness to begin — getting fitter is part of the journey.
We support people of all ages and abilities, including those returning to activity later in life. Everyone is encouraged to work at their own pace, with understanding and encouragement from coaches and fellow students.
How old do I need to be?
We welcome children, teenagers, adults and older adults.
Classes are structured to suit different age groups, and we take care to make sure everyone trains in an environment that feels safe, supportive and appropriate for them.
What if my child is nervous or lacks confidence?
That’s very common — and completely okay. We have a strong support system in place, including Youth Coaches and training buddies, who help younger students settle in, feel listened to, and build confidence gradually.
Many students who start quietly grow into confident, happy members of the club.
What if I’m older or returning to exercise after a break?
You’ll be very welcome. We actively support older students and those returning to activity, focusing on strength, balance, mobility and confidence in a friendly, non-judgemental environment.
You’ll never be pushed beyond what’s right for you.
Can parents watch classes?
Yes — parents and carers are welcome to observe, especially when children are new. We want everyone to feel comfortable and confident about training with us.
How do I get started?
The best way to start is to get in touch for a chat. We’re always happy to answer questions, talk through concerns, and help you decide if Tae Kwon Do is right for you or your child.
